Kielbasa, onions, and peppers is a simple, 5 ingredient dinner recipe. This quick dinner can be made in less than 20 minutes - perfect for busy weeknights!

Kielbasa, onions, and peppers is dinner that my family has made for years. My mom made this when I was growing up, and I regularly make it for my kids.
It's about as easy a dinner as you can make! It just take five ingredients and less than 20 minutes to make.
It's also really easy to customize this recipe to your tastes, and I've included some ideas for doing so in the "tips" section below.
Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Kielbasa: Any smoked sausage will work. Feel free to use turkey sausage or any flavor of smoked sausage that you like.
- Bell peppers: I like to use different colors of bell peppers for more flavor and color in the dish.
- Parmesan: The parmesan adds a little salty bite at the end that goes well with the sweet peppers.
How to make kielbasa onions and peppers
Here you'll find photos showing how to make this recipe. The full recipe, including instructions, is given below.
Step 1: Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat.
Step 2: Add olive oil and swirl to coat pan.
Step 3: Stir in the kielbasa and cook, stirring regularly, until heated through.
Step 4: Remove from the skillet to a plate and tent with aluminum foil to keep warm.
Step 5: Stir in bell peppers and onion.
Step 6: Cook peppers and onion until onion starts to turn translucent, stirring occasionally.
Step 7: Add in garlic, tossing to combine.
Step 8: Stir cooked kielbasa back in along with Italian seasoning, if using, and toss to combine.
Step 9: Serve topped with grated parmesan, if desired.
Tips
- Veggies: You can absolutely add other veggies in with the peppers and onions. Vegetables like small broccoli florets, small cauliflower florets, or matchstick carrots all work well. Just be sure that the vegetables are chopped small enough to cook quickly as the onion and peppers will only take a few minutes to cook.
- Seasoning: We like the flavor of the onions, peppers, and kielbasa along with the garlic and olive oil. If you'd like more seasoning, feel free to add your more of your favorite Italian or everyday seasoning with the vegetables.
Serving suggestions
I like to serve kielbasa, peppers, and onions with a side of spaghetti that has been drizzled with a little olive oil. I sprinkle the whole plate with a generous dusting of grated parmesan and a bit of fresh parsley.
Storage
Store any leftover kielbasa, onions, and peppers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should keep for up to 4 days when properly stored in the fridge.

Made this with turkey kielbasa, onion, garlic, one green bell pepper and two jalapenos. Put that on a bed of rice and I had mine with feta on top, my boyfriend added a scrambled egg and soy sauce- it was delicious both ways.
